Changing a basin refill and keeping the face plate clear

Change the SEASEE basin refill about every 1 to 2 months, and brush the stainless steel face plate a few times a month so the stream stays straight.

SEASEE team

Quick summary

  • Change the basin refill about every 1 to 2 months; timing varies with use and local water conditions.
  • The refill darkens with use, from white to beige to brown, which is a cue to check it.
  • To swap it, twist the cap off, open the tap slightly, and insert the new filter tip down.
  • Brush both sides of the stainless steel face plate 2 to 3 times a month. Use no detergent.
  • Each box holds 3 refills.

Change the SEASEE basin refill about every 1 to 2 months. Swapping it takes four short steps, and it is worth pairing with a second small habit: brushing the face plate where the water leaves the filter, to help keep the stream straight.

Both jobs are short. This guide covers them in turn, starting with the refill, then the face plate, then a way to keep the schedule without thinking about it.

When to change the refill

As a guide, the basin refill is changed about every 1 to 2 months. How soon depends on how often the tap is used and on local water conditions, so treat the range as a starting point rather than a fixed date.

The refill also shows its use. Its colour darkens as it goes, from white to beige to brown. A darker filter is a cue to open the housing and look, and to change it if it is due.

Each box holds 3 refills. A refill is 35 mm across and 33 mm tall, and weighs 12 g. If you have not fitted the kit yet, Will a basin filter fit my tap? walks through the thread check and the connectors.

Changing the refill, step by step

  1. Twist the cap off. Unscrew the cap from the filter body.
  2. Open the tap slightly. The water pressure pushes the used filter out for you.
  3. Insert the new filter with its tip facing down.
  4. Tighten the cap gently. Gently is enough.

Then note the date, on your phone or beside the basin, so you know when the next one is due.

The face plate

At the end of the filter sits a stainless steel face plate. It has about 780 holes, each 0.20 mm across, and the stream passes through all of them. Holes that fine are easy to partly block.

Splashes of food, soap and toothpaste can soil the plate. When dirt sticks to it, the flow is disturbed, and part of the stream can turn sideways instead of falling straight. When you see sideways spray, the cause can be the plate, not the refill.

Cleaning it

Clean the face plate 2 to 3 times a month. That rhythm is designed to help prevent sideways spray.

  1. Brush both sides of the face plate with a soft brush.
  2. Rinse it with clean water.

Do not use detergent. Plain water and a soft brush are all it needs, and a soft brush is kinder to holes this fine than anything stiff.

What is inside the refill

The refill is built in three parts: a PP sediment layer, an activated carbon fibre (ACF) layer, and a ball-media core. Its published operating range is water from 0 to 65 °C and pressure from 1 to 4 kgf/cm².

Keep the materials and operating range separate from the change schedule: the guide remains about every 1 to 2 months.

Spares, habits and the schedule

Keeping spares at hand

A single box gives you three changes, which at the guide interval of 1 to 2 months covers roughly three to six months at the basin. Boxes also come in larger multipacks of two or three, and in bundles that pair the kit with refills:

Having the next refill on the shelf takes the pressure off the day it is due.

Two habits, one routine

The two jobs run on different clocks, and it helps to keep them separate:

  • Refill: about every 1 to 2 months.
  • Face plate: 2 to 3 times a month.

A simple way to hold both is to brush the face plate on the days you already do something regular at the basin, such as a weekly clean, and change the refill when the calendar note comes up.

Keeping the schedule

Refills are easy to forget because they are small. You can set a reminder in your SEASEE account at My refills, where "I changed it today" records each swap.

If you would rather have refills arrive on their own, the basin refill can go on the Refill Plan.

If something still seems off

If the stream sprays sideways, clean the face plate first, because dirt on the plate can turn part of the stream sideways. If the refill is due, change it. If the joint between the tap and the filter drips, that is a fitting question rather than a refill question, and the blue rubber rings and plumber's tape are covered in the fit guide linked above. Send us a photo on WhatsApp if you are not sure which of these you are looking at, and we will help you work it out.
