Open the top of a SEASEE shower head and you will find a round disc, 6.5 cm across and 2 cm thick. That disc is the head filter, and it stacks five layers in one unit. Here is what each one is, in order, and how the disc fits into the rest of the shower.
First, a word on the water it filters
Singapore's tap water is treated by PUB, the national water agency, and is safe to drink straight from the tap. The head filter is not there to make water safe. It is a comfort choice: the stack is designed to help hold back sediment and reduce residual chlorine before water leaves the shower head, for people who prefer how that feels.
The five layers, in order
| Layer | Name | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Micro fabric filter | A fine fabric layer that opens the stack |
| 02 | Activated carbon filter | A layer of activated carbon, a common filter material |
| 03 | Ceramic ball layer | A bed of small ceramic balls |
| 04 | Chlorine-reduction ball | A layer of balls named for the chlorine side of the job |
| 05 | Micro fabric filter | A second fine fabric layer that closes the stack |
01 Micro fabric filter
The first layer is a fine fabric, the first surface the water meets inside the disc. A matching fabric layer closes the stack at the other end.
02 Activated carbon filter
Activated carbon is a material widely used in household water filters. In the SEASEE disc it is the second layer, directly behind the first fabric.
03 Ceramic ball layer
The middle of the disc is a bed of small ceramic balls. We describe it plainly by what it is, a ceramic ball layer, and make no further claims about it.
04 Chlorine-reduction ball
The fourth layer is a set of small balls, named for the chlorine side of the filter's job. Like the rest of the stack, it is part of a design that is meant to help reduce residual chlorine, not a guarantee of a fixed result.
05 Micro fabric filter
The stack ends as it began, with a second micro fabric layer before the water reaches the spray plate.
The stack as a whole
We do not split the result into a figure per layer. The disc works as one unit, and as one unit it is designed to help hold back sediment and reduce residual chlorine before water leaves the shower head.
Why we do not publish percentages
You will not find "removes X%" on a SEASEE page. How much any filter does depends on the water going in, how much it is used and how long it has been in place, and we only publish what we can stand behind. So we describe the layers, the size of the disc and the replacement rhythm, and we keep the performance wording to "designed to help".
The head filter and the body filter
The head filter has a partner. Water from the hose reaches the sediment body filter in the handle first, then passes up to the head filter before it leaves the spray plate. The two filters do different jobs and wear at different speeds:
- Body filter: about every 2 to 4 weeks, 3 filters per refill box.
- Head filter: about every 2 months, 1 filter per refill.
Around the 2-month mark both are often due together, so many people change them in the same week. The 5-Layer Shower Head Filter Refill fits both the Basic and Premium shower kits.
Why it needs changing
Filter layers are used up as water passes through them. Timing varies with local water conditions and with how often the shower is used. Change the head filter sooner than 2 months if:
- it looks dark or discoloured when you open the shower head;
- the water pressure drops noticeably.
Changing the head filter
Turn off the water first.
- Twist open the top part of the shower head.
- Take out the used disc and insert the new head filter with the black side facing the water outlet and the white side facing up.
- Check that the rubber ring is seated, then twist the shower head closed until it is tight.
If the head leaks afterwards, the filter is usually the wrong way round or its rubber ring has shifted. Open it, check both, and close it again.

A different option: Vita C
The Vita C range is a separate, scented shower option, a gel-type Vitamin C cartridge in Seasee (ocean), Lavender and Rose scents, with its own head refill. Check the product page for which shower it goes with, or ask us on WhatsApp.
Keeping the rhythm
The head filter can go on the Refill Plan, delivered every 6, 8, 12 or 16 weeks at a price 10% below a one-time purchase. We email you 3 days before each order, and you can skip, pause or cancel from your account. The plan renews until you cancel it.
